NEW SILVER ECO-RATINGS!

Joy's Camp, Elsa's Kopje, Tortilis Camp and Kitich Camp are all proud recipients of the Ecotourism Society of Kenya's Silver Eco-Rating Certification.

ESOK's Eco-rating Scheme is a voluntary initiative by the Kenyan tourism industry, designed to further the goals of sustainable tourism by recognizing efforts promoting environmental, economic and social / cultural values.

The Eco-rating criteria cover environmental and socio-economic issues, with emphasis given to sustainable use of resources, protection of the environment, and support of local economies.

There are three levels of certification: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level has stated requirements for qualification, other than earning the required points from the self-assessment questionnaire. Following self-assessment, field audits are carried out to verify information provided in questionnaires, as well as random spot checks to ensure compliance with the scheme's requirements.

Following our latest assessments, Joy's Camp, Elsa's Kopje and Tortils Camp have increased from Bronze level to Silver level eco-rating, and Kitich Camp has jumped from no eco-rating (an assessment had never been done before) straight to Silver level! Kitich Camp is even expected to reach Gold level (but as there had been no previous assessment, this can only happen after some time)! Lewa Safari Camp also went from no eco-rating (also had never been assessed before) to Bronze level.

All of The C&P Portfolio properties place a key focus on responsible tourism. As you can see in each properties' fact file (downloadable on our websites, or can be sent to you by email), there are various initiaitives in place at every property. Some examples are: revenue sharing projects to support conservancies and reserves; sponsorship of  schools and medical clinics; responsible recycling of waste materials. All of our property owners and managers are passionate about their local environments and communities, and constantly strive to find new and sustainable eco-friendly ways to support them.
